A few minutes´ drive from the Tonelli family hotels at Lake Garda, it is possible to visit the Rovereto MART.
The Contemporary and Modern Art Museum of Rovereto (MART) is located in one of the most elegant streets of the city, Corso Bettini, amidst a setting of historic eighteenth century buildings, featuring the Palazzo Alberti and Palazzo dell’Annona, the Zandonai Theatre and the Palazzo dell’Istruzione.
It was Swiss architect Mario Botta who designed and carried out the construction of the structure, where one detail immediately arouses attention and curiosity: a peculiar steel and glass dome which looms above, making fascinating plays of light.
The museum conserves art collections of considerable value and exhibits rare works of Futurism, Pop-Art, Arte Povera and Realism. Inside there is a vast area of approximately 6000 square metres dedicated to shows and exhibitions.
The museum artefacts are divided into four levels divided into exhibits, archives, libraries and collections, but there are two principal areas: those of the major exhibits which alternate, i.e., the two galleries with temporary exhibits, and one with permanent collections offering a spark for profound reflections about artistic creations from diverse historical periods, with paintings, drawings, etchings and sculptures.
Among the works held within the MART are some Futurist works by artists such as Depero, who has given much to the city of Rovereto, as well as Balla, Prampolini, Dottori and Marinetti; then there is a large collection of twentieth century works, a collection of Giovanardi, works by artists of the period following the First World War such as Chirico, Tosi and Savinio; Abstract Art is represented by the works of Melotti and Licini.
Also adding great importance to the museum are works of international artists of the calibre of Picasso, Kandisky and Warhol.
